It may be difficult to pronounce if you don´t know how, but it doesn´t stop thousands of tourists arriving to enjoy Fuengirola every year.

BEACHES

Fuengirola is popular with all types of visitors especially those seeking sun, sea and sand. The town has over eight kilometers of sandy beaches that are perfect for sunbathing, swimming, with inflatable water slides for those that fancy making a splash!

Carvajal beach is a well known “secret” hideaway for locals as it´s home to the Cubana beach bar offering tropical cocktails and delicious caribbean inspired tapas with bright coloured tables and umbrellas. Almost next door is Kalifato chiringuito, where you can try the best Tuna steaks on the coast or how about sitting on the edge of a cliff at Gecko? Gecko has an easy going vibe, with huge bean bags to chill on, whilst sipping a tasty alcoholic or non alcoholic cocktail overlooking the cliffs and watching the sunset. Higueron have just opened their own beach club with concierge service and valet parking if you´d rather try something a bit more upmarket.

HISTORICAL LANDMARKS

Visit Sohail Castle, a Moorish fortress that dates back to the 10th century. The castle is located on a hill overlooking the town and offers stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea. In October it will host the annual Octoberfest but also doubles up as an auditorium for visiting high profile acts such as Robbie Williams. Yes he is singing live in June in Fuengirola! We can´t wait to Dance DJ!

Another important landmark in Fuengirola is the Roman ruins of Finca del Secretario. These ruins date back to the 1st century AD and are located near the Sohail Castle. The ruins consist of a villa and several thermal baths that were used by the Romans. Ideal for history buffs!

The Bioparc Fuengirola is a modern and innovative zoo that is home to over 200 species of animals from all over the world. The zoo is designed to recreate the natural habitats of the animals and is focused on conservation and education. The best time to visit during the summer months is during the evening when the more nocturnal species are livelier once the heat of the day has died down a little.

NIGHTLIFE

Fuengirola offers every type of cuisine and style of entertainment. Whether you are looking for an underground club to dance all night, to sing karaoke or to sit and relax on top of one of the many sky bars. Our favorite is El Puerto towering above the marina, on the 13th floor. Yes there is a lift and the view is stunning especially with the mountain backdrop. Plaza constitution is packed with cafes and restaurants and you can often sit and watch happy couples emerge newly married from the church in the center. Confetti and rice everywhere along with smiles and happy families ready for a new future together in Fuengirola.

The marina is just about to undergo a huge reform. It will be a massive contrast to the current typical working style with even the harbor master offices undergoing a transformation. They hope to attract the big multi million dollar superyachts and offer a glamorous lifestyle to match within easy walking distance. This will dramatically change not only the face of Fuengirola but will offer so much more opportunity and eventually rival its famous sister Puerto Banus. Visit the hotel just across the road, go to the 13th floor and look across the whole of the marina and out to sea, the mountains are in the background, creating the perfect place to watch the sun go down in the west. The colors of the sky are simply stunning and so where better to enjoy than in Fuengirola.
